I love vintage furniture and decoration, and I am thrilled with the idea of finding old things that can be a new lovely object in my home.
So, last weekend my boyfriend, his family and me, went to "El Baratillo" a gigantic vintage and second hand market. It is beyond downtown, in the old part of the city. There you can find almost anything: clothing, furniture, bicycle parts, food, magazines, dolls, and even animals, a huge part of the market is dedicated to sell puppies, lizzards, tarantulas and even falcons.
We walked around a couple of hours and I bought a vintage mirror for my bike.
Then, we drove to El Trocadero, another second hand market, located in Avenida México near Chapultepec. That zone is more trendy and full of coffee shops, and the market is also much more fashionable and there it is possible to find real treasures easily. In El Baratillo, you have to be sharp and keep your eyes open to find good things, but El trocadero offers treasures in front of your eyes, everywhere.
We saw old cameras (from early 20s) working and one even had the film strip inside. Also a
KennKarte (an old identification document used during the Third Reich era) from a woman, who looked so sad and worried. It was carried with a very strange vibe, and we had to hug a tree to release the energy! The document was original and it costed around 300 USD.
I bought two black and white postcards with images from beautiful and elegant 20s women. The look in their eyes is lovely, I wonder who were them and where they lived and who they loved. I will post a photo of them tomorrow.
After filling my head with all those wonders, we were very hungry and went to eat.
If you want to find something lovely to furnish your home or you need that special poster or article to enrich your collection, you definitively have to visit this places. Or even if you don´t want to buy anything, where else can you find an old nazi helmet or a Bolex camera (probably used during the mexican Revolution) working but in a museum?
